It’s been a while since i wrote something good here. I have to confess that I just shut everything down for the last weeks of class around two weeks ago to focus in school during which time i wrote a 12 page paper analyzing a script from the hit series Spartacus: Blood and Sand for class. I am very happy with the outcome of it not only because of the paper but because it was also my last class as a graduate student. Yup it’s true I finished my Masters in Media Studies, time to update my resume. So to celebrate the occasion and have proof of all the hard work and long hours i decided to travel to NYC for graduation and at the same time score some points with my wife by bringing her along for a week vacation.

One of the highlights of it was the visit to the Natural Museum of History our first time visiting. I thought it was fascinating and very grabbing. I was familiar with the dioramas first by watching the photography work of Hiroshi Sugimoto. However i decided to dive a bit deeper into the action and perhaps put a vantage point favoring a specific character in the piece and all the sudden the “fake-ness” of the piece went away.

60 sec flight from Karlo X Ramos / KX0101.com on Vimeo.

Just a quick trip along the north coastline of Puerto Rico including a slight look into the mountains. The idea was to have an experience like a birds eye point of view of the changing topography in the island within a 60 sec timeline.

This was a fun shoot full of unexpected situations. We started shooting around 3:00pm guerilla style across Old San Juan trying to exploit several spots. However as we were walking we found an awesome restaurant with cool lighting and a nice backdrop. The light was fading quick and Gigi (Carla’s mother) quickly talk to the manager of OstraCosa and they kindly let us use their restaurant and lounge area to shoot. After a few Piña Coladas everyone felt at ease and ready to make some pictures the results speak from themselves.

This photo just made me realize how easily a photo opportunity can occur. It is very rare to see somebody working or moving cattle in the street. However Don Isaac didn’t mind he was working in a terrain nearby making it ready to be planted but when he was done he decided to take the cattle back to the owners home a few houses down the hill.

While he was walking the cattle down the street it was my mother-in-law who spotted him told my wife to call me and come out and take pictures as easy as that. He was really polite and a very warm person we establish a bit of conversation asking him about the cattle and he told me their names Which were Pincel and the other one Lucero. We chatted for a while and my father in law Hector Joined us as well as my neighbor Yeyo.

A friend of mine invited me to a game today he was shooting for a local newspaper I said cool I go. It was My first time shooting sports I’ve shot skateboarding motocross and surfing some time ago but i stopped doing it trying to focus more in music. I have to say honestly, shooting sports is not easy task. Not only you need to special equipment that is really expensive but you need to know at least something about the sport to make something at least decent. To come clean Im really not a sports fan I’m not the ESPN guy sports bar dude. However shooting this gig I understood why people live and die for their teams is the trill and the emotion of every play. Anyway I have to say that I had fun at this game it was a good opportunity to get my feet wet shooting fast in this case with Basketball.
